State Blocks Resomation

The New Hampshire Legislature banned resomation as a viable form of disposing remains last month.

The process, which dissolves bodies using a combination of pressurized hot water and acid, was deemed illegal by the State Senate - a vote that Phaneuf President Buddy Phaneuf applauded.

"I am not opposed to an individual’s right to select resomation as a option if they so desire," said Phaneuf. "However, resomation was initially going to be regulated by the State just like cremation and the resomation process was already being marketed as a form of cremation that was better for the environment. But, the resomation process has very few similarities to the cremation process. I am also not convinced that resomation has any more or less impact on the environment than cremation.  While the resomation process has no airborn emissions, there is a significant electrical demand to heat the water.  In New Hampshire, a good percentage of our electricity is generated by coal burning plants.  So, one needs to take a look at the entire resomation process from beginning to end to determine it’s true environmental impact."

The go-to expert on cremation, Buddy was interviewed by the New Hampshire Union Leader, the Concord Monitor, NH Public Radio, WMUR TV and several industry trade magazines regarding this issue.

Phaneuf receives Best of NH Honor

Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium has been selected by the Editors of New Hampshire Magazine among the “Best of NH 2008” honorees as the most Friendly Funeral Home. The family-owned and operated home has been serving families of New Hampshire since 1906.

“In this industry it’s difficult to earn such a distinction,” said President and Director Arthur ‘Buddy’ Phaneuf. “It’s an honor to know we’ve achieved our goal of creating a comfortable environment for people to plan ahead for their services and most importantly, for families and loved ones at their time of grief.”

A full list of the Best of NH will be in the Magazine’s July issue and will culminate with the annual ‘Best’ celebration at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester on Thursday, June 26.

Two busses are filled for Day Trip
Once again, a Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium Community Service Events Series Day Trip has filled up quickly. The fourth day-trip in a row to "sell-out," approximately 100 people will visit the New England Aquarium in Boston on June 25.
